Decent Workout.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This workout dvd was entertaining and effective. It really worked up a sweat, but some of the moves are similar so it gets boring at times. The ab work was amazing. She was very thorough with the instructions.
Who loves hula? Add me to the list!

The Island Girl DVD was just a lot of fun. This one will go into my DVD rotation when an indoor workout is needed. It’s a mid-level intensity program. I know it was easy for me to tone it down on days when I just didn’t have the same energy, but some of the movies I can pump up a bit when I’m feeling good. The moves were described and demonstrated well so I could understand them. Some when at tempo were challenging, but not so much that I felt uncoordinated or lost. At times I really felt like I had just stepped off the plane in Hawaii. I found the music and setting to be enjoyable, which surprised me for a workout video. I think it was a great set for the money. Try it, it’ll make you love hula too-la.
Yes I feel the burn but it’s fun
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Yes this is an exercise video but when I turn it on and start following the moves, I feel more like I am dancing. The drums are incredible and are a great change from the generic “exercise” music in other videos. In the very beginning of the video they show the whole dance that you will be learning. Then instead of going over each move step by step, stopping and working on each new step and boring me (like in some belly dance videos) they began with the first step worked on it, transitioned to the second step, put the two together, then the third step and then put them together from the top, ect. You get the idea. You built upon each step introduced and then put them all together in the end. There was no wait time while I watched the dancers demonstrate. It was a lot of fun but it burns my buns and thighs.
Great Workout, Hard to Follow
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have absolutely no experience with dance. I’ve done different kinds of aerobics and things in the past that require moving in time, and I haven’t had too much trouble. I’m capable of learning simple steps, but this DVD was still rather difficult for me.
The parts that I could follow really were a lot of fun, and I could really feel the workout in my abs (although not my butt so much). There were rather long portions, though, that just left me way far behind, which of course is very frustrating when trying to do a workout. The DVD would have been much better with a strong instructional segment prior to the actual routine, or even just by spending a little extra time explaining each move before immediately beginning it.
Really you’ll just have to try it out for yourself and see how you do. Just be forewarned that if you are as much of a beginner as I am, you may find it a little too challenging to really suit you unless you dedicate a bit of time to really learning the moves before you go the whole thing through.
Hawaii
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I ordered this tape because I lived in Hawaii and came to love the culture. While there I didn’t get the chance to learn how to dance hula. Now I can while exercising at the same time. The DVD came promptly and is in excellent condition. I’m well pleased with the seller.
fun

This video is fun to do and I am enjoying it thoroughly. It’s not intense like aerobics but gives you a great workout.
Great addition to workout regime
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have long been an admirer of dance, especially cultural dances. This set is wonderful. It has been a wonderful addition to my collection of workout dvds. It gave my heart a boost, worked my thighs and rear and Brain, and it did make me sweat . If you’re not sweating, sink lower. You should feel it. Great directions, easy to follow without compromising it wonderful effects. Beautiful in location, instruction and all over production. Get it and Enjoy. I am a happy customer
Excellent calorie burner
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
While it will take some time to get the routine down, it is an excellent way for beginners to burn calories. Kili makes hula look a lot easier than it is. I highly recommend.

GREAT DVDs- unacceptable packaging
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Amazon sells these DVDs and I paid ten dollars for them, mostly because the reviews were so good. I was very excited to receive them, only to be appalled by the general packaging. I wish someone would have commented on this so that I would have just picked them up to rent at my local library instead of purchasing them for home use. The packaging was incredibly cheap- worse than that of bootleg DVDs that you would find on the street. The box itself is cheap and does not close properly, nor does it properly hold the DVDs in place to prevent them from rattling around inside. If I would have known that these DVDs were packaged so poorly, I wouldn’t have spent $10 on them. I purchase a lot of media and believe me, this is the worst boxing I have seen to date, although I realize that it is not Amazon’s doing. HOWEVER, I do believe it’s Amazon’s responsibility to price according to quality and this combo package is not worth the $10.00. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with other reviews that these are great workout routines, I just wish I would have never purchased them and wasted my money. I would recommend to others that they borrow or rent these DVDs and save their money for more worthy media purchases.
A Disappointing workout
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
So I really like the idea of Hula dance as a way to workout. It seems like it would be really fun and simple to do. I found that its wasn’t challenging enough and that I gave me NO feel that I had worked out. I personally like to feel that ache in my muscles after a good workout. With this I got nothing. I would really like to know if this works for anyone else. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who really wants to have a good workout. On the plus side though it was really fun to do : )

I love the Island Girl Hula! They are a lot of fun and you really
break a sweat and get a good work out. Kili is easy to listen to and
a good teacher.
Love it.

Love this product. I am a little uncoordinated, taking time to learn the moves is essential. Good workout though! I felt the burn right away.
Ideal workout!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This DvD will have you workout under absolutely ideal circumstances!!!
You will forget it is raining and glum outside and actually find yourself smiling and relaxed, inspired by the beautifull background and friendliness of Kili and her assistents who will teach you how to be loose and gracious with your body while working up a great cardio sweat.
After being loyal to Jane Fonda’s (rigorous) “Challenge Workout” this is the perfect workout antidote for me personnally.
I LOVE IT!

Great instuctional video, Awesome workout!!!!!

Before I started doing the hula workouts I had no experience with the dance. Kili is a great instructor!!! I have a problem with co-ordination but after doing the workout 3 or 4 times it was easy!! Also, she is not one of those annoying instructors. She shows you every move, first slowly and then quicker. Then a combination of moves. It’s great! I would also recommend her Tahitian Cardio and Tahitian Hip Hop. I own all four of these DVDs and I absolutely love them!!!
Cardio for fun!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wanted a low impact dancing cardio that would promote hip flexibility (to minimize hip fracture should I fall…I am 62) as well as increase my cardio/pulmonary endurance in a more gentle manner. IN the beginning, I was only able to do about 10 minutes of this program. After about 3 months, I was able to do the entire program. Now I use the DANCING WITH KILI chapter as a warm-up/cool-down for other programs that focus on lower/upper body strength-training. Sometimes, in the afternoon, I do 10 minutes of hula with Kili simply for the sheer pleasure of moving my hips! In spite of some of the negative reviews on Kili’s other hula dvd’s, I have purchased all of them! I love the diversity and the fact that I can adapt them to suit my personal needs once the hula ‘motions’ have been mastered.
I have been doing yoga for 5 years and qigong for about 4 years. I was amazed to discover that hula (as done by Kili)allows me to move QI as I dance! I love this aspect of hula! Also, my joints have loosened far more rapidly with hula than they ever did with yoga. I suspect that this might be caused by the fact that yoga was developed for men by men while hula (as taught by Kili) is for a woman’s body!
Great authentic hula in workout form
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I loved her since her first DVDs “Hula Workout” though those used cutsy 60s music & added 60s american dance moves but still have a lot of authetic hula dancing.
These “Island Girl” hula workouts are more authentic. Just like her other ones, you get a great workout, your abs burn, your hips, legs get a nice workout. It’s all authentic dance moves with some added quick squats, etc. added in so you barely notice it for adding toning. The authentic drum Hawaiian music is beautiful & does keep you stimulted too keep going just like a dance/rock beat would.
I had no trouble following & learning the steps, there are plenty of dance DVDs that I have had trouble with, but she breaks everything down well & shows it slowly several times before speeding it up. She even cues YOUR left & right, not hers.
There’s a trailer for her “Hula Workout” DVDs & another authentic Hula workout like this called “Island Girl: Hula Abs & Buns” at collagevideo com
Fun!
The instructor and her two dancers are incredibly graceful and it’s easy to tell that they’ve been doing this for years. Dancing is as natural to them as breathing. In fact, they make it look so calm and simple, that it frustrated me when I realized “Oh, yeah, I’m not them”. But the routines are fairly easy, it will just take practice. My main reason for wanting to try hula dancing is that it seems a bit easier on the knees than my other dance workout DVDs. I love the upbeat pace, but it’s brutal on bad joints. So hopefully the skills will come back, and I’ll be a make believe Island girl.

I haven’t used this long enough to see results yet, but I know they will come. The first time I tried my legs started burning right away. I used to dance, but it’s been years, so I’ve lost some coordination. I can usually do each move a couple of times before my legs get tangled and my arms seem to lose all connection with my brain. But that’s me, not the DVD.
Cardio Hula/Hula Abs and buns
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I alternate three Island girl workouts, sometimes two in one day and I absolutely love them. I’ve been doing the workouts for about three weeks and my lower body is toning up nicely. Some of the steps take a couple run throughs to get down and I would recommend getting the feet patterns down before trying to add the arms. It is not a “killer” workout and is perfect for those of us who want to begin working out and for those who want a break in their more strenuous exercise routines. It works and its fun.

I really enjoyed this workout. It goes slow when teaching you the steps and is a powerful workout. Can’t wait to get the other ones.
